Lumbricals (of hand)

Anatomy

Origin:
Radial and palmar aspects of the flexor digitorum profundus tendons.

Insertion:
Lateral aspect of extensor apparatus of index, middle, ring and little fingers.

Functions

Extension of interphalangeal joints while flexing metacarpophanalgeal joint.

Supply

Nerve Supply:
-Medial two: Deep branch of the ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
-Lateral two: Digital branches of the median nerve (C7,T1)

Blood Supply:
Anatomises of dorsal metacarpal and digital arteries with the common palmar digital arteries (arising from the superficial palmar arch).
